Transportation to and from Washington’s three surrounding airports
can be arranged through Super Shuttle
, by taxi, or by limo service. Washington National Airport and Union Station
are also a quick ride to/from the nearby Mt. Vernon/Convention Center Metro subway station
. Taxis are caught by standing in a queue outside the airport. Your guesthouse hosts can give you information to assist you with making reservations on the Super Shuttle or for limo service.
Getting around DC
Planning is key to arriving where you want for a reasonable cost.
Taxi Cabs - Area Taxi Cabs are all on a meter system now (the arcane zone system was eliminated in late 2008). The charge is based upon the milage, the wait time, number of passangers and amount of baggage, but the price is consistent with any other major metropolitan area. A taxi from Washington National will cost about $15 plus tip.
The Circulator Bus - One of Washington's best bargains, for $1.00, you can take a special tourist-oriented city bus that picks you up 1 block from the guesthouse and can take you to the National Mall (where the Capitol & Museums are), downtown, the Southwest Waterfront, or with an easy transfer can take you to Union Station, the Capitol and Georgetown. The Circulator operates between the hours of 7am and 9pm and picks up every 5 - 10 minutes. To catch the circulator, walk 1 block to the southwest corner of 9th and N Sts NW and look for the Circulator Bus stop. Click here
for more information on the Circulator.
Walking - The DC GuestHouse is a short, pleasant walk to many tourist and business distination downtown. Ask your guesthouse host for a walking map. Safety should always be a concern to anyone visiting a major metropolitan area, but the area surrounding the guesthouse and downtown is safe. As in other cities, we recommend that you do stay alert will walking and do not jaywalk at a stoplight. Use of cellphones and personal stereos is responsible for many pedistrian accidents in DC.
The Metro - DC's extensive, clean, safe subway system has a station close to the Guesthouse. For a reasonable fare, you can get close to most business and tourist centers in the area. The walking distance to the Convention Center Metro station is 4 blocks. Walk South on Tenth Street to "M" Street then two blocks east to the far side of the Convention Center.
